American–Hyatt partnership: what is ending

As of September 10, 2026, American Airlines and Hyatt are winding down their loyalty partnership rather than renewing the agreement when it ends in November. Remaining partner reward opportunities continue through the applicable program-year deadlines. That means the change is not one universal cutoff for every action. Account linking, earning a reward and selecting a reward are separate steps. Start by identifying which program is supplying the opportunity you are using and which action you still need to complete. Do not assume an earned reward and an unearned opportunity have the same timing rules.

Link accounts by November 15 if needed

Members must have their AAdvantage and World of Hyatt accounts linked by November 15, 2026 at 11:59:59 p.m. Central to participate in the remaining earning opportunities. If the accounts are already linked, the reported guidance says you do not need to link them again. Check the current status of the connection rather than starting unnecessary account changes. Linking is a prerequisite for remaining opportunities, not a promise that you have earned a particular reward. Review any separate qualification requirements for the option you want and keep confirmation of the account connection with your program records.

Hyatt and American have different earning cutoffs

December 31, 2026 is the last day to earn AAdvantage rewards through Hyatt Milestone Rewards. February 28, 2027 is the last day to earn Hyatt awards through American Loyalty Point Rewards. These dates describe different directions of the partnership, so label them clearly in your own notes. A Hyatt milestone that provides an American reward belongs to the Hyatt-side deadline; an American Loyalty Point Reward that provides a Hyatt award belongs to the American-side deadline. Check which route applies before changing travel or spending to pursue a reward.

An earning deadline is not the same as a selection window

The reported wind-down preserves the normal time to choose an earned award. Hyatt allows 90 days after reaching a milestone to make a selection. American’s 2026 Loyalty Point Rewards selections are permitted through March 31, 2027. Keep the earning date and the choice date in separate fields when planning what to do next. A later selection window is not evidence that you can keep earning the opportunity after its applicable cutoff. Read the choices available in your account and the relevant terms before relying on a selection you have not yet made.

Some ordinary earning and transfer options remain

The end of this partnership does not remove every connection between the programs. The ordinary option to earn 500 AAdvantage miles per Hyatt stay instead of Hyatt points remains, as does the option to transfer Hyatt points to American miles. These surviving options are not the same as preserving the partner status and reward structure that is winding down. Compare an ordinary earning choice with the alternative points you would give up, and evaluate any transfer around a real intended use. Do not treat the existence of a transfer option as a recommendation to move a balance.

Make an account-specific checklist before changing plans

First, check whether your accounts are linked. Next, identify any partner reward you have already earned, any remaining qualification you are considering and the program responsible for each. Record the appropriate earning cutoff and the selection window separately. If a choice is already available in your account, read its displayed conditions before taking action. If you are considering extra travel solely to qualify, compare the extra cost and effort with the reward you would actually use. A partnership ending can make a deadline important without making every last-minute qualification attempt worthwhile.

Protect choices without assuming a replacement benefit

The practical response is to organize the remaining opportunities you can use under the stated rules. This article does not promise a successor partnership, automatic replacement reward or extension beyond the reported windows. Keep the confirmed account details and applicable program terms together, and revisit any assumption that depends on a reward you have not earned or selected. If your plans do not fit the remaining opportunities, you do not need to manufacture a trip around the wind-down. Clear records of what is linked, earned and still selectable are more useful than treating every date as an urgent instruction to spend.
