Bilt Cash is most useful when you match a redemption to spending or travel you already expect. Housing-point unlocks, the Points Accelerator and eligible hotel credits work differently, so comparing their conditions matters more than simply choosing the most exciting option. Start with the balance you could lose at year-end, then decide which eligible use you can realistically complete.

As of September 17, 2026. Only $100 of unused Bilt Cash carries into the next calendar year; the remainder expires on December 31. That makes a plan worthwhile, but it does not mean you should create extra purchases or book an unnecessary trip just to spend the balance.

Use Bilt Cash to unlock housing points

Using $30 in Bilt Cash unlocks points on $1,000 of housing payments through Bilt. For the stated example of a $3,000 housing payment, $90 in Bilt Cash unlocks 3,000 points. This is a way to earn points on that payment; it is not a statement that $90 pays the housing bill itself.

An automatic monthly setting is available for this use. Before enabling it, consider whether you want housing unlocks to take priority over another planned redemption. An automated choice can be convenient, but the decision should still reflect how you want to use your balance. Review your intended housing payment and the Bilt Cash needed rather than assuming the example amount matches your situation.

Check the Points Accelerator’s card and spending rules

Bilt Obsidian and Palladium cardholders can activate the Points Accelerator using $200 in Bilt Cash. It then earns one extra point per dollar on the next $5,000 of nonhousing purchases through year-end. Bilt Blue is not eligible. Check the card first: having a Bilt Cash balance alone does not establish access to this particular option.

Activation is manual, and it does not automatically renew when the spending amount has been used. The option can be activated up to five times in a calendar year. Those limits mean it helps to think about both your expected purchases and the time available to make them. An accelerator is not the same thing as receiving all the extra points immediately after activation.

Use the amount you expect to spend normally as the basis for the decision. If that is below the full qualifying amount, the maximum extra-points figure is not the result to assume. Likewise, the year-end boundary matters even when you have enough Bilt Cash to activate. A redemption that depends on future purchases is only useful to the extent those purchases fit your plans.

Compare Bilt Cash costs on an equal basis

Bilt Cash required for additional points
OptionBilt Cash per 1,000 pointsMain condition
Housing-point unlock$30Eligible housing payment through Bilt
Fully used Points Accelerator$40Eligible card, manual activation and qualifying spending

Fully using the accelerator earns 5,000 extra points for $200 in Bilt Cash. Housing unlocks have the lower Bilt Cash cost per 1,000 points in this comparison. That is a useful mathematical distinction, not a universal instruction: your payment situation, eligible card and expected purchases determine which option you can actually use.

Treat the hotel credit as a separate booking decision

Depending on elite status, Bilt Cash can cover up to $100 toward a hotel stay of at least two nights booked through Bilt Travel, once per calendar month. “Up to” is important: do not assume the maximum applies to every account. Check your eligible amount and the booking conditions before including a credit in your travel budget.

This option is most relevant when you already want a qualifying stay. Compare the trip you would actually book rather than extending a stay simply to make it eligible. A hotel credit and extra points are different outcomes; the clearer choice is the one that meets a real need without requiring spending you would otherwise avoid.

Build a usable plan before the reset

Review how much Bilt Cash you hold, identify what can carry over, and map the remainder to eligible uses you expect to complete. Keep the conditions beside each choice: housing payments for housing unlocks, card and purchase requirements for the accelerator, and status plus booking requirements for hotels. The aim is to use the rewards deliberately, not to maximize a theoretical figure at the expense of your budget.
