Chase Ultimate Rewards transfers to World of Hyatt are becoming less generous for another group of cardholders. As of September 17, 2026, Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred customers who applied before June 15 are approaching an October 1 switch from 1:1 to 4:3. The useful next step is to identify which rule applies to your account before deciding whether an earlier transfer serves an actual trip.

Which Chase cards face the October 1 Hyatt change

The reduced ratio already applies to Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred applications made on or after June 15, 2026. For people who applied earlier, October 1 is the transition date. A reminder about October should therefore not be read as a promise that every holder of those cards can still transfer at the old rate. Your application date is part of the answer, alongside the exact product you hold.

Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business retain their 1:1 Hyatt transfer ratio. This is an important exception: a headline saying all Chase-to-Hyatt transfers are being reduced would be misleading. Start with the name of your card and the transfer preview in your account. Do not assume that another traveler's screenshot, or the rate available through a different Chase product, describes the transfer available to you.

What a 4:3 Hyatt transfer means for your balance

At 4:3, four Ultimate Rewards points become three World of Hyatt points. The change concerns how many hotel points you receive from the transferable balance; it is not a claim that your existing Hyatt points are being converted into a smaller balance. Keep the two currencies separate when planning. A hotel quote expressed in Hyatt points is not automatically the same number you will need to move out of Chase.

The transfer increment matters as well. Chase transfers must be made in blocks of 1,000 Ultimate Rewards points. In the example covered here, an award requiring 20,000 Hyatt points needs a transfer of 27,000 Chase points at the reduced ratio, producing 20,250 Hyatt points. The extra Hyatt points are the result of that rounding constraint, not a discount on the room or an additional promotional bonus.

Use the actual award price you see to work through your own budget, rather than copying that example for every stay. Write down the Hyatt points needed, any Hyatt points you already intend to use, and the transfer total shown by Chase. Then review the resulting Hyatt balance before confirming anything. Keeping those figures side by side makes it easier to spot the difference between the amount transferred and the amount needed for a booking.

A deadline is not a reason to transfer without a plan

Someone in the earlier-application group with a specific Hyatt stay in mind has a concrete reason to review the transfer before October 1. Someone without a trip has a different decision: whether moving points now would serve any identified need. The ratio change alone does not establish that a particular hotel is available, that an award fits your dates, or that the points price represents the best option for your budget.

Compare the stay you actually want with an acceptable cash alternative before deciding how much to transfer. Use the same dates and a room you would be willing to book, then read the conditions attached to each option. These are practical comparison steps, not a promise of a particular redemption value. A more favorable transfer ratio can help a plan, but it does not replace checking whether the underlying stay is suitable.

For Reserve cardholders, the stated exception means there is no corresponding ratio deadline in this change. For affected Preferred cardholders, the priority is to distinguish your current rate from the rate that will apply later. Either way, make the decision at the account and booking level. Confirm the displayed conversion, the intended award and your points budget together; avoid treating the most urgent version of a headline as an instruction to move your whole balance.
