Wyndham Rewards can be useful when you work backward from a hotel stay: check the award price, compare the transfer ratio available to you, and then apply any eligible cardholder discount. The biggest headline number is not necessarily the best route to a booking. Your particular card and account terms matter, especially when calculating the balance you need.
As of September 17, 2026. This guide is for US residents. Card benefits described here apply to accounts opened on or after June 17, 2026; older accounts may have different benefits. Check your own account terms before treating a discount or expiration exception as available to you.
How Wyndham Rewards award tiers shape your booking
The current award chart has tiers of 5,000 points, 15,000 points, 30,000 points and 45,000 points per bedroom per night. Treat those as the framework for checking a stay, not a promise that a particular hotel will be available at the lowest tier. Begin with the property and accommodation you would actually choose, then examine the points requirement shown for that booking.
The per-bedroom wording is important when comparing accommodation options. Do not assume the headline tier is the complete price of every unit you might select. Put the actual award total alongside the cash option you are considering. That comparison keeps the focus on whether using points suits this trip, rather than whether a low advertised tier looks attractive in isolation.

Choose the transfer route your account actually offers
Bilt, Capital One and Chase transfer to Wyndham at a 1:1 ratio. Citi ThankYou cards with annual fees also transfer at 1:1, while no-annual-fee ThankYou cards transfer at 1:0.7. Wells Fargo transfers at 1:2. Because the ratios differ, the same Wyndham balance can require a different amount of your original rewards currency.
| Rewards program or card type | Transfer ratio to Wyndham |
|---|---|
| Bilt | 1:1 |
| Capital One | 1:1 |
| Chase | 1:1 |
| Citi ThankYou with annual fee | 1:1 |
| Citi ThankYou without annual fee | 1:0.7 |
| Wells Fargo | 1:2 |
A more generous conversion ratio does not, by itself, establish that a transfer is your best use of points. Compare the intended stay first and consider what else you would do with that rewards balance. If you have several eligible accounts, write down the starting currency required from each. That makes the tradeoff clearer than comparing only the Wyndham points you would receive.
Match the Wyndham discount to your specific card
The Earner and Earner Plus cards offer a 10% award discount, the Earner Business card offers 20%, and the Earner Premier card offers 25%. These are distinct benefits attached to different products, not a single discount every Wyndham member receives. Remember the account-opening qualification above rather than applying the newest card description to an older account automatically.
Online award booking requires the full standard points balance even when an eligible cardholder can receive a redemption discount. Eligible members who have enough for the discounted award but not the standard amount can call to book. If that describes your situation, check the phone option before assuming that another transfer is necessary simply because the website will not complete the reservation.

Watch both Wyndham point age and inactivity
Wyndham points generally expire four years after posting. They can expire earlier if you go 18 months without earning, redeeming or transferring activity. Those are separate considerations: looking only at recent activity can overlook the age of the points, while looking only at their age can overlook an approaching inactivity threshold.
Points earned by Earner Premier card members do not expire while the card remains open and in good standing. Do not extend that exception to every Wyndham balance or every cardholder. Before making plans around points you have held for a while, review the applicable account terms and the balance information available to you.
When this Wyndham approach is worth using
This approach is most useful when you have a specific stay in mind and can compare the actual points requirement with the cash option. It is less useful as a reason to collect more Wyndham points without a planned use. Keep your decision grounded in the intended booking, the transfer ratio your account supports, any discount you genuinely qualify for, and the expiration rules that apply to your points.
